Reducing barriers in communication and cooperation between pharmacologists and institutions willing to take part in education, research, innovation and academic extension in the area of pharmacology and therapeutics in Brazil. SIG Farmaco is a Special Interest Group on pharmacology and therapeutics recently approved in the scope of RUTE Network of Telemedicine following initiatives and shared coordination of UNIFESP-EPM, UFAL, UFRJ e UFG.

SIGs are related to Rede Universitária de Telemedicina (RUTE, or, in English, University Network of Telemedicine, http://rute.rnp.br), which is an initiative by Ministry of Science and Technology, coordinated by National Network of Education and Research (RNP),aimed at supporting telemedicine projects that already exist and future projects born out of interinstitutional cooperation, promoting webinars, classes, research, case studies, and remote assessment in various medical specialities and other areas in health, for professionals of several professional levels. In order to promote all this, RUTE has high capacity infrastructure provided by Rede Ipê (RNP), Community and Metropolitan Network of Education and Research  (Redecomep), and Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (Rede Clara), the latter is the one responsible for the liaison with partner networks from other parts of Latin America, from Europe, Japan, Australia, and the United States.

Availing RUTE Network and SIG Farmaco existing national communication infrastructure, we promote permanent spaces of exchange such as monthly videoconferences to stimulate discussions and exchange on teaching, research and extension among faculty, researchers, and students of various levels (technical studies, undergraduation, and graduation) of the medical, biomedical, and biology areas interested in pharmacology and therapeutics.

The objective is to promote/increment interaction among Research Centers and Groups, which, through actions of divulgation, discussion, and academic-scientific best-practices exchange, are catalytic to the construction of networks of collaboration on behalf of shared knowledge on pharmacology and therapeutics, stimulating education, research and innovation, engaging the Scientific Societies, the leaders of the academic-scientific discussions/advancements in Pharmacology and in related areas on a national level, such as the Sociedade Brasileira de Farmacologia e Terapêutica Experimental (SBFTE, in English, Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, www.sbfte.org.br), and on an international level too, such as the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR, www.iuphar.org).
